Data Transfer
Refers to the the amount of data that accessed on a website.В Usually the measure is recorded on a monthly basis.В Any and all types of files are included in the calculation of data transfer.В This includes any images, docs, and multimedia files.В The term data transfer is also used interchangeably with the term bandwidth.
Dedicated Server
A web server that is solely used by 1 organization or entity to support 1 website and it’s necessary web files.
Domain Name
A name assigned to a web site.В Domain names must be unique as there can only be 1 unique domain name registered by a person or organization.В So no 2 people can have the same domain name.
Domain Name System (DNS)
This is a specialized protocol that takes an IP address of a website and turns it into the domain name it is assigned to on the web server.В Web servers on the Web don’t actually recognize domain names but rather the IP address that represents that domain.В Domain names are easier for people to remember than IP addresses so that’s where DNS comes in.
