Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)
An email setting that allows remote access to a hosting mail server. Emails accessed using IMAP are not downloaded to a local computer as POP allows. Instead, IMAP synchronizes with the web server and only the email headers are accessed until a specifical email is selected for viewing. This has the advantage of being able to check emails from multiple computers or locations since the email is still on the web server.
Internet
The vast array of computers that are connected together. The term Internet is often used interchangeably with the term “the Web”. However, there is a distinction. Internet refers the actual connection of the computers across the globe.  The Web refers to how the information is accessed over the Internet. So while they are related and work together, they are not the same thing. It is very similar to how to the relationship computer hardware and software work together.
Intranet
Often confused with INTERnet, intranet is a small group of computer connected together. Usually part of a organization or businesses private network. While the Internet is generally public, intranet’s are usually private and access is limited to authorized people.
Internet Protocol
A type of communication setup that determines the manages the information being transmitted over the Internet.
IP Address
This is a unique number assigned to any and all devices that are connected to the internet or to a intranet.
