Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
A type of protocol that has become the standard for all Internet connections and local networks. These protocols can be thought of a set of multilevel layers that are responsible for handling the transmission of data.
Terabyte (TB)
A unit of measurement that deals with computer data capacity. A terabyte is equivalent to 1024 gigabytes. It is commonly accepted to consider each measurement to be equal to 1000 units as opposed to 1024 for easier calculations. Here is a more complete conversion table:
1 terabyte (TB) = 1,024 gigabyte (GB)
1 gigabyte (GB) = 1,024 megabytes (MB)
1 megabyte (MB) = 1,024 kilobytes (KB)
1 kilobyte (KB) = 1, 024 bytes (B)
Top Level Domain (TLD)
This is the uppermost level of a domain. Domains follow a heirarchy and the TLD is the highest in the order. The most recognized TLD is COM. Other common TLD’s include NET, ORG, and INFO
Traceroute
A network tool that allows a user to track the path data packets take when going through a network. This is particularly useful when trying to establish where a connection is being interrupted in a hosting link.
Traffic
The amount of actual data being sent and received by person visiting a website. Traffic is often confused with the term hits. It is actually calculated by the number of visitors and the number of pages that are visited.
